1. Data controller
The data controller is Marco Finelli, responsible for the Retro-Gamers.it editorial project.

2. What data we process
While browsing the website, technical data may be processed, such as IP address, browser and device information, pages visited, date and time of access, technical logs and data required for security, maintenance and website operation.
When a user creates or uses a reader account, we may process email address, username, display name, account role and status, reader badge, avatar uploaded by the user, profile bio, session data and account-related preferences. The password is handled by the authentication system and is not visible in plain text to the website staff.
If the user chooses Google login, we may receive data provided by the provider, usually name, email address, profile image and technical identifiers required to complete the login.
Community features may involve comments, replies, related article, article language, dates and times, author profile, moderation status, comment reactions such as likes and dislikes, internal system messages, one-to-one private messages, minimal conversation metadata and reports submitted by users.
Technical preferences may also be stored, such as light or dark theme, language, cookie preferences and choices required for the website and the community to work.
3. Purposes of processing
Data may be processed to:
- provide the website, editorial content and related technical features;
- create, protect and manage reader accounts;
- allow email/password login and Google login;
- display public profiles, avatars, bios and reader badges;
- receive, moderate and display comments, replies and reactions;
- provide internal system messages and private messages between users;
- handle reports, moderation, security and prevention of abuse or spam;
- send operational messages, such as admin notifications for new registrations or account and comment-related emails;
- measure visits and content performance, when these tools are present and according to user preferences;
- display embedded content, such as YouTube videos, and manage external or affiliate links;
- comply with applicable technical, contractual or legal obligations.
4. Legal basis
Processing required to provide accounts, login, profiles, comments, messages and other features requested by the user is based on providing the requested service.
Security, technical maintenance, abuse prevention, moderation, report management and protection of editorial quality are based on the legitimate interest of the controller.
Non-technical cookies, non-essential analytics tools and third-party content are used based on the user’s consent, when required. Optional email notifications are sent only when provided by the feature chosen by the user or when needed for website operations.
Some processing may be necessary to comply with legal obligations or to respond to requests from competent authorities.
5. Public profiles and comments
Username, display name, avatar, bio, reader badge, public staff role and approved comments may be publicly visible on the website. The user’s email address is not shown publicly.
Approved comments and replies may remain associated with articles and the public profiles of their authors. Users should avoid publishing personal data about themselves or others in comments, bios or messages when it is not needed for the discussion.
6. Private messages
Private messages are internal community messages and are visible to the conversation participants. They are not an end-to-end encrypted communication service.
Staff does not access private conversations indiscriminately. However, in case of a report, moderation need, security need or abuse prevention, staff may access the information and context needed to review the issue.
7. Providers and infrastructure
The site uses Vercel for hosting, deployment and distribution. It may also use technical measurement tools such as Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, according to the provider’s own terms and documentation.
The website uses Sanity as its editorial CMS for managing published content and Supabase as technical infrastructure for authentication, database, profiles, comments, messages, badges and avatar storage.
Resend may be used to send transactional and operational emails, such as notifications related to comments, replies or new registrations.
Google may process data when the user chooses Google login, gives consent to Google Analytics or loads embedded YouTube content. Articles and pages may also contain affiliate links or external links to Amazon, eBay or other third-party websites.
8. Statistics, external content and affiliate links
Retro-Gamers.it may use Google Analytics to collect statistics on website usage. When present, Google Analytics is used according to the preferences expressed by the user for the “Analytics” category.
When present, Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights are used according to the provider’s own terms and documentation.
Some articles may include YouTube videos. When possible, youtube-nocookie.com is used, and videos are loaded only after consent to third-party content or after an explicit choice by the user.
Some articles may contain affiliate links. If the user makes a purchase through these links, Retro-Gamers.it may receive a small commission, at no additional cost to the user. After the click, data processing is governed by the policies of the destination website.
9. Transfers outside the EEA
Some technical providers, such as Vercel, Supabase, Google, Sanity or Resend, may process data outside the European Economic Area. In these cases, processing takes place according to the tools and safeguards provided by applicable law, including contractual clauses or other recognized mechanisms.
10. Data retention
Account data is retained while the account is active or for as long as it is needed to provide the requested service, handle security, moderation and technical or legal obligations.
Approved comments, replies and other approved community content may remain visible together with the articles and the website archive, unless removal is requested where applicable or moderation is required.
Private messages, system messages and reports are retained for the time needed to manage the community, security and any reviews. Technical data and logs are retained for technical, security or legal periods. Cookie preferences may be stored in the browser to avoid showing the banner repeatedly.
11. Security
The website uses reasonable technical and organizational measures, including HTTPS, authentication, access controls and staff access limited to necessary functions. No system can guarantee absolute security.
12. Minors
Retro-Gamers.it is aimed at a general audience. Minors should use community features with adult supervision and according to the rules provided by applicable law.
13. User rights
Within the limits and according to the methods provided by Regulation EU 2016/679, the user may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection to processing and portability of personal data. The user may also withdraw consent where applicable.
Users may request changes to or deletion of their account, bio, avatar and associated comments or content through the contact methods indicated in this policy.

14. Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated over time, including as a result of technical, legal or editorial changes to the website.
