1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that websites can store in the user’s browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage and session storage, may be used for technical purposes, statistics or to integrate third-party services.
2. Types of tools used
Retro-Gamers.it may use the following categories of cookies or similar tools:
- Necessary: required for technical website operation, security, account sessions and storing consent preferences.
- Analytics: help us understand how the website is used and how content performs, when the user gives consent where required.
- Third-party content: allow embedded content, such as YouTube videos, to be displayed.
- External links and affiliate links: lead to third-party websites, such as Amazon or eBay, which may use their own cookies and tracking systems.
3. Necessary technical tools
Necessary cookies or tools allow the website to function correctly and do not require the user’s consent. They may include storing preferences expressed through the cookie banner, the light or dark theme preference, language preferences where applicable and technical data required for browsing.
Cookie preferences are stored in the browser to avoid showing the banner repeatedly. The theme preference may be stored locally to keep the experience chosen by the user.
4. Authentication and community cookies
If the user signs in to a reader account, technical cookies or equivalent tools are used to keep the login session secure. These tools allow access to the account area, profile, avatar, comments, messages, internal notifications and community features.
Authentication tokens and sessions are handled through secure technical tools, where applicable with HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite cookies. They are not used for marketing purposes.
5. Analytics
Retro-Gamers.it may use analytics tools to measure visits, understand which content is viewed and improve the website.
When present, Google Analytics is used according to the preferences expressed by the user for the “Analytics” category.
The site may use technical measurement tools such as Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, according to the provider’s own terms and documentation.
6. Third parties and embedded content
Some pages may include YouTube videos. Before consent is given, this content may be replaced by an informative placeholder. The video is loaded only if the user accepts the “Third-party content” category or explicitly chooses to display that content.
When the user chooses “Continue with Google” to access an account, login is handled through Google and Supabase. In that case, Google may use its own cookies or technologies according to its own policies.
7. Affiliate and external links
Some links to Amazon, eBay or other external websites may be affiliate links. By clicking these links, the user accesses external platforms, which may use cookies and tracking tools according to their own policies.
8. Consent management
Users can accept, reject or customize preferences for non-necessary categories through the cookie banner. Preferences can be changed through the cookie management link or button available on the website, when available.
Users can also manage or delete cookies and local data from their browser settings. Disabling necessary technical cookies may prevent login, account and community features from working correctly.
9. Data controller
The data controller is Marco Finelli, responsible for the Retro-Gamers.it editorial project.
