Revolution’s first adventure
Lure of the Temptress marks the beginning of Revolution Software’s history in graphic adventures. Released in 1992, before Beneath a Steel Sky and Broken Sword, it already shows several ideas that would become part of the studio’s identity: story-driven design, distinctive locations, character interaction and a world that tries to feel alive within the technical limits of the period.
Turnvale, Diermot and Virtual Theatre
The game follows Diermot in the village of Turnvale, occupied by the Skorl and controlled by the mysterious Temptress. Its most important historical feature is the Virtual Theatre engine, designed to let non-player characters move through the world according to their own routines. Not every part has aged equally well, but the idea still matters: Lure of the Temptress tried to make adventure games feel less static, more populated and closer to a small interactive stage.
Why play it today
Playing it today means returning to a formative moment in European adventure game design. Lure of the Temptress does not yet have the refinement of Revolution’s later classics, but it has clear historical value and a fantasy identity that sets it apart from the better known LucasArts and Sierra models. This page collects verified freeware packages, technical notes and recommended tools to play it today in a simple and legal way.
